| The city of Agios Nikolaos is 65 km east of Heraklion. Agios Nikolaos or "Agios"- as locals say, dominates the beautiful gulf of Mirabello, in Lasithi prefecture of Eastern Crete.
The city has a population of 10,000 inhabitants, and despite its
small size, it is one of the largest cities in Lasithi, the most eastern department of Crete. Also
it was one of the first cities in Crete where the touristic
development of the island started, while its famous lake, around which is built the city center, continues to impress visitors. Finally, another feature of the city is the many beautiful beaches, which every year get certifications for their cleanliness and amenities. |
